Unity govt's support among lawmakers remains intact, says Dr Asyraf

KUALA LUMPUR: The support of 148 MPs for the unity government remains intact, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

The chief secretariat of the Unity Government Consultative Council said most importantly the platform for discussion between all parties remained open and communications were ongoing from time to time.

"As the chief of the secretariat, I have ensured that communications will continue to go on," he told a press conference at Menara Dato Onn on Friday (May 5).

He was asked to comment on whether the upcoming unity government national convention on May 14 would refute speculations that the unity government has lost majority support to the Opposition.

An online news report had claimed that 10 MPs, who previously supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister after the 15th General Election last November, were involved in a plot to overthrow the unity government.

On Monday (May 1), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said parties in the unity government have remained steadfast, so they were strong enough to fend off any plot to topple the administration.

"Our commitment is very clear," the Prime Minister said, referring to reports about a conspiracy to bring down the government.

"If there is no conspiracy, then what work do they have?

"We are carrying out our responsibility as the government. We are focused on our work," said Anwar.
