Actor makes bid to have charge dropped

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad has written to the Attorney General’s Chambers to drop the charge of causing hurt to a security guard at a condominium last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal informed Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim that the representation was filed by the defence team on May 2.

Sharnaaz’s counsel Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat apologised to the court for having filed the representation only on May 2, saying there were several documents that they needed to complete.

“We request that a date be set in early July to await the outcome of the representation as the prosecution needs time to examine it,” he said at the case mention yesterday, Bernama reported.Atiqah then set July 10 to find out the outcome of the representation.

The 38-year-old actor was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Izzul Islam Awang, 27, at the entrance of a condominium block in Jalan Dutamas here at 8.30pm on June 16, 2022.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides for up to one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Sharnaaz said his team would try to resolve the case but maintained that they were ready to go to trial if the representation is rejected.
