Cops arrest man in Melaka over seditious social media posts


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 61-year-old man in Melaka for allegedly making seditious posts on social media.

Police force secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the man was arrested on Saturday (May 6) at Kampung Hulu, Melaka.

"Police also seized two mobile phones from the suspect, who uploaded three posts on Facebook, which were allegedly seditious and provocative in nature that could threaten public order.

"The case is being investigated by the special investigations unit (D5) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code for bringing hatred against the King or government and intentional insult with intent to break the peace," she said in a statement on Sunday (May 7).

She added that police were also investigating the case for misuse of networking facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"The suspect has been remanded until May 9 to help with further investigations.
