BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) has challenged those who want to topple the Federal Government to move a vote of no confidence against him during the coming May 22 Parliament meeting.
He said he needed to put a stop to talk of a conspiracy to topple the unity government, which could sabotage and destabilise the federal administration.
“I challenge those who want to topple the unity government, I will face you all, bring the motion during the Parliament sitting but with one condition – let this be the last so that we can focus on developing the country,” he said in his speech at the Malaysia Madani Hari Raya open house at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh yesterday.
The Tambun MP also warned his detractors not to sabotage the Federal Government and promised that the unity government would take action accordingly without compromise.
Anwar said he chose to face his detractors in Parliament, unlike previous prime ministers.
He added that the unity government led by him was still strong with the support of 148 MPs and stressed the legitimacy of the government was intact.
Anwar was referring to a report by a portal that a group of Barisan Nasional MPs who previously supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister after the 15th General Election (GE15) were involved in a plot to overthrow the unity government by quitting their seats to force by-elections.
In his speech, Anwar also said past leaders of the country should have fulfilled their position of trust with care and that they should share half their wealth with the Malays if they sincerely wanted to help the community.
“I would like to tell these Tuns and Tan Sris who are multi-billionaires – you have taken much of the country wealth, (now) give half of your wealth to the Malays,” he said.
