PASIR GUDANG: Johor has received an allocation of RM107mil this year to carry out maintenance and upgrading works along federal roads statewide, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said this included RM5mil that would be specifically used for maintenance works involving the Pasir Gudang Highway, which is being used by an estimated 95,000 vehicles daily.

"The Works Ministry has approved a project to upgrade the Pasir Gudang Highway from four lanes to six lanes in phases.

"The project is currently at Phase 2B, which involves the junction between Bandar Seri Alam and Taman Rinting to the Pasir Gudang junction. The phase is expected to be completed by 2023," he said.

He added that Phase 1 of the project has been completed in 2016 while Phase 2A was completed in 2018.

The minister said this to reporters after checking on the progress of the upgrading works for the Pasir Gudang Highway here on Monday (May 8).

He added that Phase 3 of the project has been approved under the Rolling Plan 3 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (MP12).

"Phase 3 of the project involved the roads between the Perling junction up to the North-South Expressway.

"It has been approved under MP12 and is currently under the planning stage to confirm the scope and cost of the project," he said.

He said that Phase 2B and 3 of the project would involve some 12.5km stretch of the Pasir Gudang Highway.

"We hope that this project will be able to solve or at least reduce congestion at the Pasir Gudang Highway," he said.

Asked whether Johor would be receiving any additional allocation to fix roads affected by the floods, he said that the matter would be considered.

"We will take that into consideration and listen to the suggestions from the state government regarding the matter.

"I have also met with the Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during my visit here to find out more about what Johor needs.

"Ultimately, any extra allocation will need to be approved by the Finance Ministry," he said.
