Man sentenced to eight months in jail for brandishing an air pistol


MELAKA: A 29-year-old man was sentenced to eight months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here after brandishing an air pistol to intimidate a motorcyclist during a road rage incident.

Low Zhao Yuan pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Mazana Sinin on Monday (May 8) after he was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by threatening to kill and having the intent to cause fear against Muhammad Zulhusni Mohamad Amin, 25.

The Section provides for an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Low was also charged under Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation pistol-type Wingun Patent Super Spot 702 CAL 6MM containing six bullets.

The Section carries a jail term of up to a year, and a maximum fine of RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.

Both offences were committed in front of the Melaka Mall building at Jalan Lebuh Ayer Keroh at 12.17am on April 28.

The accused was represented by counsel James S Thanjong Tuan.

The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest.
