PETALING JAYA: PAS supports the efforts of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad paving the way for Malay leaders, thinkers and political parties to meet for the sake of unity, says party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

This was why it agreed to meet Dr Mahathir and sign his Malay Proclamation document despite the former premier's "past wrongs" against the party, he said in a Facebook post Monday (May 8) night.

The meeting was possible because PAS and Dr Mahathir had common ground now, he added.

"The Malays are being toyed with and deceived because of their own neglect and ignorance.

"Don't let the ummah's remaining political power be lost due to ignorance and complacency," he added.

He said the ummah had been plagued by corruption, moral decay and internal division.

"Please cast aside those who are obsessed in the pursuit of their own ideals... (who) believe that the end justifies the means," he said.

Such means, he added, included attacks against Malay leaders who are successful in politics, the economy and their respective fields.

Hadi also slammed those who worked with political extremists who were hostile towards Islam and the Malays.
