Perikatan not envious of govt but just doing its job as Opposition, says Bersatu Youth chief

PETALING JAYA: The Perikatan Nasional coalition is not envious of the unity government but is only carrying out its duty as the Opposition to provide checks and balances, says Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

The Bersatu Armada (youth) chief said Perikatan is only carrying out the work and trust of the people, be it in Parliament or outside.

He said there is no envy as claimed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki recently.

"He (Asyraf) must (realise) that the present government has failed to understand the people's concerns which are the same (as) when he criticised Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's governments," Malay daily Sinar Harian quoted Wan Ahmad as saying on Tuesday (May 9).

"The people are restless as their economic issues were not handled and they are suffering. They promise various formulas but not a single one has been successful," he said.

Asyraf Wajdi had said on Friday (May 5) that those who spread lies that the unity government would fall were envious because they could not be in charge.

The unity government secretariat chief stressed that 148 MPs who signed the memorandum of understanding supporting the unity government have not changed their stance.

Meanwhile, Bersatu supreme council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman said there was nothing worth being envious of in the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar ibrahim.

He claimed that apart from satisfying a small group of people, there were no other significant achievements by the unity government.

He said when Perikatan was not able to form the government after GE15, its MPs pledged to be a constructive Opposition by providing checks and balances as in developed countries.

He said it was a sincere gesture by Perikatan but it was not reciprocated by the Prime Minister, and alleged that Opposition leaders were targeted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"It can clearly be seen that the Madani government is not only trying to weaken the Opposition but remove them from the equation, (as evident from) debates in Parliament on important issues concerning the people," he added.
