Man goes missing after croc attack in Beluran river

KOTA KINABALU: A crocodile attacked and dragged a man into the river while he was washing up at an estate in the Beluran district on Tuesday (May 9).

The 28-year-old, identified as Rudi Amiruddin, went missing after the 3.50pm incident.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said the victim and some friends had been clearing an electric fence near the Linbar 2 Estate near Sungai Rowog

"After clearing the area, they went to the river to get clean themselves up," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 10).

He said a crocodile suddenly attacked and dragged the victim into the river.

"The victim screamed for help but his friends were unable to do anything," said Hamsa.

He said an operation has been mounted to search for the victim.

"Our search operations are still ongoing. There is no telecommunications signal in the area," he said.
