KUALA KANGSAR: If the process of any change in the government takes place, it must be done peacefully, with the people being the utmost priority, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic).
The Bersatu deputy president cited the provision under the Constitution and law to establish a government as very clear.
“So if the process happens, we must let it happen peacefully.
“If the government changes 80 times in a term, if the importance of the people is not prioritised, that does not hold any meaning,” he said at the Perak Bersatu’s Hari Raya open house at Dewan Jubli Perak here yesterday.
Ahmad Faizal was asked to comment on Anthony Loke’s statement on May 7 that the conspiracy to topple the unity government is part of the Opposition’s strategy to give their supporters and members false hope to face the six upcoming state elections.
The DAP secretary-general had said there was no basis for the rumours of a change in the Federal Government as all parties under it have given their unwavering support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Ahmad Faizal added that Perikatan Nasional always focused on the people.
“Let’s work for the people because we need to find ways, especially during Hari Raya, to lower the prices of chicken and essential items, not the prices of cement.
“Cement prices can be lowered later because people are not going to build houses during Raya, but more likely they will host open houses instead,” he said.
On another matter, Ahmad Faizal said MPs from Perikatan have yet to receive their allocation.
He said that without the allocation, it was difficult for the MPs to help the people.
The former Tambun MP said it was crucial to note that the allocation for the Opposition MPs was not to be spent for political mileage but for the importance of the rakyat.
He said when Perikatan was the government, they focused on matters about the needs of the people and stopped politicking.
“That is what needs to be done. But in current times, it is a bit worrying because when they are busy politicking, politicians are unable to focus or provide the best to people that require help.
“The MPs are chosen democratically and they must be able to carry out their responsibilities to help the people.
“Without the appropriate allocation, it is difficult,” he added.
Ahmad Faizal also agreed with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Anwar must reveal the wealth he had amassed during the latter’s stint as deputy prime minister and finance minister.
