Design council expects more Asean participation

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia Design Council (MRM) is targeting 10 entries from Asean countries for the Malaysia Good Design Awards (MGDA) this year, says its director Husaini Ismail.

He said last year, Indonesia and Cambodia sent one entry each to compete with local companies for MGDA recognition.

“Previously, participation was only open to local designers and companies, but now we think it’s best to open the door to participation from outside.

“We expect entries from companies with well-known products because that will strengthen (the brand of) this programme at the international level,” he said at a ceremony to present MGDA 2022 and Certified Industrial Designer awards to 15 local designers here on Tuesday, reported Bernama.

Also present was Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak.

MGDA is the highest recognition from the government for the design industry in its efforts to support products that focus on good design.
