KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself will come to Sabah to look into its infrastructure issues, including the current water woes hitting several areas across the state.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew (pic) said this when asked to comment on the latest development on Friday (May 12) where water shortage hit the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here.
Liew said she was aware of the issue in KKIA and had been told by airport management that they were looking into it.
“I heard the airport (KKIA) is also very hot, but I hope this will be taken care of.
“The issue of shortage of water is not in one particular place but also affected other areas.
“That is why when we were in Kuala Lumpur two days ago, the Sabah Pakatan Harapan leaders met the Prime Minister and raised up some of the concerns of (basic) infrastructure.
“He (Anwar) said he will come to Sabah again and look into these issues, and will approve further allocations to overcome them.
“We feel some of these issues need immediate attention, otherwise the people will suffer, and it is not only in the state capital of Kota Kinabalu but also Sandakan, Tawau and others,” she told reporters after the Hari Raya celebration hosted by the ministry on Friday night.
Meanwhile asked on an update of the case involving a divemaster who was nabbed for kissing a China tourist underwater in Semporna, Liew said that the case was still being pursued by the police.
She however admitted that going forward, investigation might be a bit difficult as the victim has left the country to return to China, after filing the police report.
“I think he has not been charged so far but was remanded four days. Whether the remand is extended, it is up to the police.
“The authorities are taking action on this case, so we just wait for results,” she said.
Asked whether his diving instructor license would be renewed, Liew said, “Whether the license will be revoked or what, we will wait for the results of the police investigations.
“But the information I got confirmed that he is a qualified divemaster.
“Every industry has a bad apple, unfortunately this incident happened in Semporna, one of our popular destinations.
“But I believe this is not a norm and will not be repeated. We are monitoring closely,” she added.
