BUTTERWORTH: A report on the seizure of heroin worth RM789.56mil that possibly went through Port Klang to Brisbane, Australia was submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 3.
However, Customs director-general Datuk Zazuli Johan said that the report was incomplete as they still needed information from the Australian Border Force (ABF).
"So far, no arrests have been made and we believe that Malaysia was the transit location for the drugs involved.
"ABF needs to get permission from relevant ministries in Australia before giving us any information.
"Based on initial information received, the drugs came from the Golden Triangle (an area covering parts of Myanmar, China, Laos and Thailand). We will continue with the investigations," he said during a press conference held at the Penang Customs Department in Prai, Butterworth on Friday (May 12).
In April, it was reported that Anwar had ordered an urgent investigation into how a RM790mil consignment of heroin was smuggled out of Malaysia to Brisbane, Australia.
The drug haul was reported to be the second largest of its kind in Australian history.
Anwar said it would be embarrassing if the drugs went through Port Klang.
He questioned how the drugs went undetected and how smuggling was done 12 to 16 times until Australian authorities uncovered the drug operation.
Anwar called for Bukit Aman to carry out an urgent investigation.
"I want to know what actually happened ... we must bring these criminals to book," Anwar said.
The heroin, weighing 336kg with a street value of some AUD268mil (RM790mil), was seized by Australian police in Brisbane, Queensland, on March 13.
The drugs were hidden in two concrete blocks, each weighing about 500kg, marked as solar panel accessories inside a sea freight container, Australian police said.
Officers drilled into the concrete blocks and removed 960 packages, each containing about 350g of heroin.
