SHAH ALAM: Selangor recorded the highest number of for the Labour Recalibration Programme (RTK) 2.0 applications in the country, with more than RM100mil collected in levies and compounds between January and May 10 this year.

Selangor Immigration Department director Dr Muhammad Syahmi Jaafar said the collection was made through applications and registration involving 182,754 illegal immigrants.

One of the factors that contributed to the high number of applications, he said, was the high number of factories operating in Selangor industrial areas.

Of the total applications received, 20,794 went through the verification process with 19,699 approved, he told a press conference after observing the implementation of RTK 2.0 for foreign domestic workers at the Immigration Department here on Friday (May 12).

The RTK 2.0 programme is to legalise foreign workers, including domestic helpers.

According to Muhammad Syahmi, there are 7,250 active foreign domestic workers in Selangor, with the highest number involving those from Indonesia (4,686), followed by the Philippines (2,091) and Vietnam (201).

Among the allowed source countries for foreign domestic workers are Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal and Laos, he said.

Based on the statistics of the RTK 2.0 programme for foreign domestic workers in Selangor, he said, a total of 733 applications were received. – Bernama
