Senior cop charged with CBT involving over RM500K in Taiping

TAIPING: A senior police officer has been charged with misappropriating more than half a million ringgit during a robbery-murder investigation in Aulong here in 2012.

Assistant Supt Rahimi Abd Rahman, 55, pleaded not guilty after the charge under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust was read before Sessions Court judge Nabisha Ibrahim here on Friday (May 12).

ASP Rahimi was said to have misappropriated RM588,615 and 550 Thai baht (RM73 at current exchange rates) at police headquarters here between Dec 29, 2016 and March 13, 2017.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 20 years, whipping and also a fine.

His lawyer P. Ravee requested bail to be set at RM10,000.

"My client came to the court today by himself.

"He is still a working police officer and taking care of his family, including two children," said Ravee.

“He recently had a minor stroke and ... the medical bills (were high),” he said, adding that ASP Rahimi only had five years to serve until retirement.

Deputy public prosecutor Saifulakmal Mod Said requested for bail to be set at RM50,000 with one surety.

Also in the prosecuting team was DPP Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani.

Nabisha set bail at RM20,000 with one surety and fixed June 9 for mention.
