Visit Perak Year 2023 targets 500,000 foreign tourists to visit Ipoh, says mayor

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is targetting 500,000 foreign tourists to visit Perak’s capital by end of this year in conjunction with the 2023 Visit Ipoh Year, said its mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin (pic).

He said it was hoped that the target could be achieved, considering that by last April, some 50,000 foreign tourists had visited the city, a 10-fold increase compared to before the Covid-19 pandemic period.

"Before the pandemic, there were only about 4,600 foreign tourists visiting Ipoh. I am sure that more visitors will visit Ipoh by end of this year," he told reporters after attending the 40th Tourism Promotion Organization for Asian-Pacific Cities (TPO) Executive Commitee, Regional Meeting and Joint Promotion Presentation here on Thursday (May 11).

The meeting was the second time held in Ipoh after the first being held in 2015. - Bernama
