PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) says it has received an invitation to the unity government convention and will be attending the event.
"We received the invitation. We'll attend tomorrow," Muda secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi told The Star in a text message on Saturday (May 13).
Amir had previously said they would hold a discussion on whether the party would attend the convention.
The Muda leadership had previously expressed unhappiness at being excluded from the first two unity government secretariat meetings, even after they had expressed support for the current administration.
The youth-based party led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had said they had written four official letters to Pakatan Harapan to join the coalition but did not get a reply.
Separately, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) also confirmed they would attend the convention.
"Yes, I will be there. PBM is sending a delegation to the convention together with all parties aligned with the government," said its president Datuk Larry Sng.
He recently said the party would hold discussions with the unity government on the possibility of contesting in the upcoming state polls except in Selangor, where it has taken the position to work with PKR instead.
The inaugural unity government convention, to be held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (May 14) is themed "Madani, Shaping the Future of Malaysia".
Various issues such as the economy, nation-building, and policies under the Madani concept and how they will be implemented are expected to be raised in the convention.
According to Bernama, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said all 148 MPs backing the current government would be attending.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is the chairman of the unity government secretariat, is expected to deliver the keynote address.
