Nanny nabbed for alleged abuse of seven-month-old baby in JB


JOHOR BARU: A nanny has been arrested by the police here for allegedly abusing a seven-month-old boy.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said police received a report from the victim's mother at about 4.30pm on Friday (May 12).

"The victim's mother brought him to the Sultanah Aminah hospital to seek treatments on Thursday (May 11).

"Checks by medical officers found that there were some bruise marks on the victim's body. He is now in a stable condition and is still in the hospital for observation," he said in a statement here on Saturday (May 13).

He added that the 34-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday (May 12) at her house around the Taman Universiti area in Johor Baru.

"She was arrested to assist in investigations before being released later under police bail.

"Upon questioning, the woman denied the allegations. The suspect had previously been charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for allegedly abusing another child in 2021. The case is still in trial," he said.

He added that the case is also being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, where if convicted, she could face a maximum of 20 years in jail or slapped with RM50,000 fines or both.
