BACHOK: A report on investigations into the death of Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) member Mohd Idris Abdul Samad, 34, due to a cobra bite, is expected to be completed within two weeks.
APM deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Abdul Wahab Rahim said the APM investigation committee was still probing the standard operating procedure (SOP) and equipment used when the incident occurred.
"The results will be used as a reference and guide in making improvements to the SOP and support equipment used, such as gloves when moving the reptile,” he said.
He said this after presenting the dependent’s benefit amounting to RM2,000 in pension and funeral expenses by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to the family of the late Mohd Idris in Kampung Kemasin here today (May 14), which was also attended by Kelantan Socso director Nora Jacob.
Mohd Idris was confirmed dead on Tuesday after fighting for his life at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian after being bitten by a cobra while moving it from a sack into a special cage.
"We (APM personnel) are indeed exposed to dangers and based on this year’s cases from January to date, we have dealt with more than 31,000 cases of poisonous animals throughout the country. In Kota Baru alone, we handled more than 2,000 such cases from January to December last year,” he said. - Bernama
