Unity meet: Umno Youth chief says sorry to Amanah for remarks about Mat Sabu

KUALA LUMPUR; Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh has apologised to Amanah for a statement criticising its president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who is also Agriculture and Food Security Minister, over government-linked company (GLC) appointments at the ministry's agencies.

“I understand that my statement may have offended Amanah. From the bottom of my heart, I want to apologise,” he said during the Unity Government National Youth Convention at the World Trade Centre here on Sunday (May 14).

Last week, Dr Muhamad Akmal criticised the move and asked for the appointments to be annulled.

He had said it was against the principles of the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During his speech, Dr Muhamad Akmal said respect, understanding and trust among component parties was needed to ensure the unity government's success.

“We have... differences but they must be resolved in a proper manner.

“Malaysia does not consist of one race or religion alone and the same goes for political ideologies,” he said.

Dr Muhamad Akmal also called on the country's youth to create history.

“We always read and study history but now we must create it.

“Now is our time to create a new political future and show that the youth in the unity government no longer talk about extremism but instead find common ground for our country,” he said.
