KUALA LUMPUR: Both employers and job seekers walked away as winners from the two-day myStarjob Fair 2023.
While thousands of job seekers ended up getting a new job or at the very least, better informed, the over 30 participating employers were content as they made their name better known following the fair’s conclusion yesterday.
OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Bhd’s talent acquisition manager Anis Azman said the bank was looking for fresh graduates eager to learn the ins-and-outs of how banks operate.
“We mainly looked for new recruits to train for standard banking jobs like bankers or financial advisers as well as some IT positions for all our outlets nationwide.
“Anyone who is interested in how banks work or shares our forward-thinking vision is welcome to apply at our future booths or programmes, even if they don’t have the relevant experience or education,” Anis said at the fair at Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre yesterday.
Singapore-based Japan Foods Holding Ltd’s booth was on the hunt for new managers for its new restaurants as part of its plans to further expand.
“Any fresh graduates with a passion for F&B is welcome to apply for our managerial trainee programme even after the fair is over, even if you don’t have any prior experience or background in the industry.
“So long as they have the passion and willingness to work the long hours the industry demands, anyone can join,” the company’s human resource manager, James Lim, said, adding that training would be provided.
DXC Technology, which has offices in 75 countries worldwide, was looking to hire fresh graduates who were interested in the field of information technology (IT).
“We welcome anyone, regardless of their expertise level in IT, to apply for a job at our company so long as they have a good attitude combined with the willingness to learn and work in the office.
“They’ll be provided two to three months of training before they take on a job of either IT security, cloud or data engineering in our company,” its talent acquisition specialist Ushananthini Vasu said.
Meanwhile, IJM Corporation Bhd was looking for skilled workers to fill its ranks across its multiple departments.
“On the operational side, we are still looking for people to join our sales and marketing team as well as project engineers and managers, while on the corporate side we’re looking for people to join our internal audit, IT support and legal teams.
“In addition to technical skills, we are also looking for applicants who are adaptable, have good communication and teamwork skills, while also having critical thinking is a plus,” one of IJM’s human resource managers, Kenny Chin, said.
He added that he hoped to be interviewing more high quality applicants soon.
On the other hand, Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd wanted to train new graduates to become their own bosses under their Alliance CEO programme.
“We welcome any young passionate open-minded fresh graduates who are eager to learn about the sales and entrepreneurship skills they need to kick off their own business so long as they have at least an SPM certificate or equivalent and pass our interview.
“In addition to the training, selected applicants can also be offered up to RM12,000 in fixed income over 24 months under the programme,” Allianz agency transformation department assistant manager Tan Tze Mee said, noting that those interested could still apply through its online website.
She added that the company was also looking for people to fill up vacancies within the company.
Among the fair’s major sponsors were Airbus Customer Services Sdn Bhd, Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, Air Selangor, Bursa Malaysia Bhd, Fujitech Singapore Corporation Ltd and Leong Hup International.
Event organiser and Malaysia’s leading media organisation, Star Media Group Bhd, was also on the lookout for new recruits, with various vacancies from its many departments waiting to be filled.
Hopeful job seekers who missed the fair can look forward to the next myStarjob Fair which will take place for two days on June 10 to 11 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, and will also run from 11am to 7pm with free admission.
