PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he has declared the value of his assets many times before, but Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has yet to produce proof that he abused his power during his tenure as prime minister for personal gain.
In a Facebook post on Monday (May 15), Dr Mahathir said he had no problem declaring his assets as there was nothing for him to hide.
"The problem now is Anwar has accused me several times of abusing my position as prime minister to amass wealth for myself and family.
"I was also accused of amassing billions of ringgit and owning a jet plane and a yacht," he said.
Dr Mahathir also said he had declared his assets several times before.
"Datuk Seri Anwar says he had declared his assets. Even I declared assets during my time as the prime minister and it was public knowledge," he said.
Dr Mahathir added that he had taken legal action against Anwar for the accusation.
On May 3, Dr Mahathir filed a RM150mil defamation suit against Anwar over a speech he made during an event in March, which was livestreamed on Anwar's and PKR's Facebook accounts and YouTube channels.
Dr Mahathir claimed that Anwar had alluded to him in the speech when he referred to "a person in power for 22 years and 22 months”.
He said the statements by Anwar, as Prime Minister, had a far more devastating effect than any other individual in Malaysia.
