KUCHING: The Federal Government should promptly resolve Sarawak's claims in relation to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Inter-Governmental Committee Report and the Federal and state constitutions, says Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.
The Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri said the Federal Government should also continue to implement development programmes in Sarawak.
"This is necessary to improve the quality of health and education services, develop infrastructure, protect the welfare of Sarawak and enhance border security," he said when opening the Sarawak Legislative Assembly meeting here on Monday (May 15).
Taib said that close ties between the Federal and state governments would benefit the people.
"I am pleased that the unity government was formed with the support of the Sarawak government. A stable government will bring prosperity to the people," he said.
Taib congratulated the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his wisdom in resolving Malaysia's recent political turmoil, paving the way for a prime minister to be appointed in an orderly and peaceful process through the formation of the unity government.
He also congratulated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Prime Minister.
"I believe the unity government under his leadership will bring greater development to the nation," he added.
Taib also said Sarawak was celebrating its 60th anniversary of independence within Malaysia this year with the theme "Sarawak Maju Makmur".
"This theme is timely as we have achieved much economic, political and social success over the last 60 years.
"Let us all celebrate the anniversary to remember the contributions of those who fought for independence as well as leaders who achieved the stability and progress we enjoy today," he said.
Earlier, Taib inspected a 105-member guard of honour mounted by the General Operations Force.
They were accompanied by a police band which played the national and state anthems.
The state assembly will sit for eight days until May 24. Three Bills will be tabled, which are the Supplementary Supply (2022) Bill, Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill and Sarawak Craft Council Bill.
