Perak police seize drugs, arrest two men for distributing cannabis

IPOH: The police have arrested two men and seized about RM25,947 worth of drugs, believed to be cannabis, at two locations here.

Deputy Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the police had acted on a tip-off and arrested the first suspect at a house in Sungai Rokam on Monday (May 15) at about 12.25am.

"During the arrest of the 39-year-old man, the police found several packets of drugs, believed to be cannabis, that weighed about 7,433g, cannabis plant seeds and liquid cannabis.

"We also seized equipment believed to be used for packing the drugs," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 16).

"Others seized during the arrest included three vehicles, eight watches, one necklace, two bracelets and RM150,000 in cash," he said, adding that the total value of the seizure was about RM699,182.

DCP Azizi said the second arrest involving a 52-year-old man was made at a house in Taman Sri Rokam on Tuesday (May 16) at about 1.15am.

"During the arrest, we seized 40g of cannabis worth about RM400," he said, adding that both men tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the main psychoactive component of cannabis.

He said both men also did not have any previous crime cases and were believed to be active in distributing drugs since 2021.

"We believe the drugs were for local distribution in Perak and could be used by about 3,000 people.

"The case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said, adding that the men would be remanded for seven days until May 22 to facilitate investigations.
