JOHOR Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced a RM1mil allocation for the Raja Maha Mariamman Temple in Johor Baru, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The temple will undergo its seventh Maha Kumbabishegam (reconsecration) next year after the ongoing refurbishment at a cost of RM3.5mil.

Onn Hafiz was visiting the temple to officiate the opening of the new RM1.5mil cultural centre when he made the announcement.

The temple management was able to raise RM2.5mil while temple committee chairman V. Rajaseelan had requested an additional RM1mil, which the state government agreed to provide.

In his speech, Onn Hafiz said the state government would review the feasibility of providing annual funds for the centre’s upkeep.
