Man nabbed over viral racist video


IPOH: A man has been detained over a viral video clip which showed a man spewing profanities and stirring up racial sentiments at a restaurant in Falim here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the 42-year-old man was arrested at 10.30pm on Monday in Ampang Baru following an investigation on the one-minute 18-second video that had gone viral on Twitter.

“We received a report on the incident on Sunday. The man has been tested positive for cannabis,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“We believe we have solved the case with his arrest,” he said.

“The investigation papers are in the midst of being completed and it will be forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for the next course of action,” ACP Yahaya added.

In the video, the man, who is believed to be a delivery rider, was filmed behaving rudely.

The man started verbally abusing the person who recorded the act, who is also believed to be the one heard trying to reprimand him.
