KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) led state government is working towards resolving the ongoing water and electricity problems severely affecting the state, says Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
The GRS information chief said steps are being taken to manage and resolve the problems with the long-standing issues over the two utility outfits.
As such, he urged people not to be swayed by the opposition’s attempts to solely blame Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his administration for the ongoing power and water problems in parts of Sabah.
He said they must avoid drawing quick judgement and instead examine the situation objectively, considering the complexities involved in managing the essential utilities.
“The opposition’s swift finger-pointing and attempts to lay the blame solely on the Chief Minister are political in nature. They, too, had previously led the state, and they are well familiar with the challenges.
“The Chief Minister has been working tirelessly to address these issues and ensure that the people of Sabah have access to necessities such as electricity and water.
“It is crucial to acknowledge the continuous significant investments and initiatives undertaken by the current administration to improve Sabah’s infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of essential utilities,” Bangkuai said at a gathering with the committee members of branches of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in Kiulu, about 60km from here on Thursday (May 18).
Bangkuai said the recent commitment by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help in resolving Sabah’s water supply issue reflects the Federal Government’s positive stance towards Hajiji’s leadership.
He said Sabah is witnessing a series of positive developments and significant policy reforms, contributing to the well-being of the state and its people.
Under Hajiji’s administration, he said the state revenue hit its highest level at RM7bil in 2022, while allocation for assemblymen was increased this year to RM3mil, both of which showed substantial spikes compared to Parti Warisan’s term in office.
Hajiji’s astute decision-making, commitment to inclusive governance and focus on driving Sabah’s economic growth have garnered support, Bangkuai added.
Bangkuai, who is PBS information chief, urged party members to continue supporting Hajiji under GRS to address the challenges confronting Sabah.
“PBS has long been recognised for its dedication to the welfare of the people, and by maintaining a cohesive stance within GRS, the party can further consolidate its influence and contribute effectively to shaping the state’s future.
“Our (PBS) active participation within the coalition has allowed the party to leverage collective strengths and resources, leading to more effective governance and policy implementation,” he added.
