PETALING JAYA: Mutual official visits between Malaysia and China will strengthen strategic partnership between the two countries, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“Since the official visit by the Prime Minister to China in March this year, we are delighted to be hosting one of the top Chinese leaders in Malaysia.
“The mutual visits further strengthen the strong strategic partnership between our countries while we anticipate the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China bilateral ties next year,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Thursday (May 18).
Dr Wee was commenting on China’s 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee chairman Zhao Leji, who arrived in Malaysia on Thursday (May 18), to begin his three-day working visit here.
Dr Wee had accompanied Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul and Deputy Speaker Alice Lau to welcome Zhao at the Parliament building for a bilateral meeting.
“Several other MPs from both political divides were also invited to join the meeting.
“I first met Zhao on March 31 this year during the official visit to China with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This is our second meeting within two months,” said Dr Wee.
Dr Wee is hoping for better relations between Malaysia and China following Zhao’s official visit.
“We hope that this official visit will intensify our cooperation with China in terms of trade, economy, education, cultural and government affairs, to bring positive impacts to the people from the two countries,” added Dr Wee.
On Thursday (May 18), Zhao and his delegation, in an Air China aircraft, touched down at the Bunga Raya Complex of the KLIA at 8.15am.
Malaysia is Zhao’s last stop of a three-country tour following Morocco and Senegal.
In Malaysia, Zhao is scheduled to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and to meet Anwar.
Zhao is also set to head to Melaka before returning to Beijing this Saturday.
