Tawau cops nab trio linked to armed gang robberies


KOTA KINABALU: Three men linked to armed gang robberies were detained by the police in Tawau on Wednesday (May 17).

Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said a car believed to be used by the suspects to carry out the crimes had also been seized.

“Based on intelligence, a team from Sri Indah Tawau police station arrested three men suspected to be involved in robberies in Tawau around 4pm on Wednesday," said ACP Jasmin in a statement on Thursday (May 18).

Without elaborating, he said all three have past records involving criminal and drug cases.

The suspects were remanded for seven days starting Friday (May 19) until May 25 and the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code (for gang/armed robbery), added ACP Jasmin.

If found guilty, they are liable for imprisonment up to 20 years and could also be whipped.
