PETALING JAYA: Mutual official visits between Malaysia and China will strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“Since the official visit by the Prime Minister to China in March this year, we are delighted to be hosting one of the top Chinese leaders in Malaysia.
“The mutual visits further strengthen the strong strategic partnership between our countries while we anticipate the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China bilateral ties next year,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post yesterday.
He was commenting on the arrival of Zhao Leji, China’s 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee chairman, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday to begin his three-day working visit.
Dr Wee had accompanied Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul and Deputy Speaker Alice Lau to welcome Zhao at the Parliament building for a bilateral meeting.
“Several other MPs from both the political divides were also invited to join the meeting.
“I first met Zhao on March 31 this year during the official visit to China with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.Dr Wee is hoping for better relations between Malaysia and China following Zhao’s visit.
“We hope that this will intensify our cooperation with China in terms of trade, economy, education and cultural and government affairs to bring positive impacts to the people from the two countries,” he added.
Zhao and his delegation touched down at the Bunga Raya Complex of KLIA at 8.15am yesterday.
Malaysia is Zhao’s last stop of a three-country tour following Morocco and Senegal.
Zhao is scheduled to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and will meet Anwar.
