KUALA LUMPUR: Patrols conducted by the mobile patrol vehicles (MPV) and the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) nationwide have increased the confidence of the people in the police's ability to ensure the safety of the people and their belongings, including during the festive season, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah (pic).

The Inspector-General of Police said that between January and April, the MPV unit had conducted 872,283 vehicle checks and issued 76,768 summonses.

"The MPV unit also detained 1,651 individuals for various criminal offences including narcotic-related crimes.

"The URB conducted 154,887 stop-and-talk as well as Meet-and-Greet to foster better ties with society," he said during Bukit Aman's monthly assembly on Friday (May 19).

The IGP urged the police force to intensify efforts to achieve success in their duties and fulfil the aspirations of the government and expectations of society.

"The theme 'Police and Society are inseparable' is a testament to the importance of fostering close ties with the people in preventing crime.

"The Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) is tasked with conducting engagements with all levels of society through various programmes," he added.

Acryl Sani said achieving zero crime for a country was impossible but it does not mean continuous efforts on crime prevention should be stopped.

"Crime prevention is instrumental in curbing the number of crimes from getting out of hand.

"I am confident the JPJKK under the leadership of Comm Datuk Aidi Ismail will be able to implement various strategies to ensure the safety and security of the people," he said.

The country's top cop also presented certificates of appreciation to 37 police officers from various departments for their excellent service.
