KUCHING: The Sarawak Delta Geopark is a new attraction with the potential to draw eco-tourists to the state, says Datuk Sebastian Ting (pic).
The state Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the geopark covered an area of 3,112sq km in Kuching, Bau, Padawan and Siburan.
It was declared the country's sixth national geopark by the National Geopark Committee in June.
"Visitors can experience unique and fascinating geological sites while learning about landscape formations and their background," Ting told the state assembly on Friday (May 19).

He was replying to a question from Datuk Ibrahim Baki (GPS-Satok) on marketing campaigns and initiatives, including new tourism products, to attract more international visitors.
To bring in more foreigners to national parks, Ting said the Sarawak Forestry Corporation had developed eco-conservation products such as the Heart 2 Heart with Orang Utan, a sea turtle adoption programme, an urban forest night walk, a hornbill watch and a peat swamp night walk.
"Last year, a total of 687 participants attended these programmes, with frog watching and night walk activities the most popular," he said.
Ting also said the Sarawak Tourism Board was carrying out the Global Sia Sitok Vacations campaign until July 16 to woo international travellers.
Through the campaign, 48 merchants have come up with 144 packages accessible via the EnjoySarawak app.
Upcoming events designed to bring in domestic and international visitors include the Rainforest World Music Festival from June 23-25 and Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta from Oct 27-29, he added.
