YONG PENG: Seat negotiations for the impending six state elections is in progress and will be announced once everything has been finalised, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
The MCA president said that the ongoing process involved all parties under the Unity government, especially those in the Peninsula.
"Negotiation is in process and everyone is involved in it, especially parties in the Peninsula as the state elections this time does not involve Sabah and Sarawak.
"Until or unless it has been finalised, then no one can confirm any decision," he said when asked about the seat negotiations involving the six state elections.
Dr Wee said this in a press conference during the Yong Peng and Ayer Hitam Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here.
Also present was state health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman.
He said that the seat negotiation would be finalised as soon as possible as the six states were expected to be dissolved in the third or fourth week of June.
Dr Wee, who was also the Ayer Hitam MP, said that the important thing was for all parties under the Unity government to work together and fulfill the people's aspirations.
"We have to work hard for the people and let them do the assessment. Let the people see and feel how we look after their welfare.
"This is a very crucial time and we need to listen to the people and their aspirations," he said.
On the unity government convention last Sunday (May 14), Dr Wee said that he hoped the convention would encourage all parties under the government to work together for a good cause for the people.
"We are duty-bound to excel and let the people feel that this government could really help them, especially when the economy is uncertain.
"All parties need to work together to achieve stability," he said.
During the Hari Raya event here, which was attended by about 2,000 people, Dr Wee also handed out gifts to 18 people who would soon be performing the haj pilgrimage.
