Don’t easily believe cheap mobile phone offers on social media, says Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: Beware of offers for cheap mobile phones on social media, say the police.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) said the public should not easily believe offers that were too good to be true.

"To avoid becoming a victim of an ecommerce scam, check the sellers’ profile.

"Scammers will use the name of certain companies to dupe victims," the department said on its official Facebook page.

Check the comments and reviews for any post for such cheap mobile phones, the CCID said.

"Be careful if you are asked to go into another website, download an Android Package Kit (APK) file, or deal through WhatsApp.

"Don't divulge any personal or banking information to any unknown parties" the department added.

The CCID said the public should check an account number and phone number of a seller via the SemakMule website before making any transaction.

"Victims of scams can contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 or their respective banks to report on cases," it said.
