No compromise in school bullying cases, police may be roped in, says Deputy Education Minister

GEORGE TOWN: The Education Ministry will not compromise on bullying cases and will ask for help from the police to carry out investigations into gangsterism in schools, says Lim Hui Ying.

The Deputy Education Minister said the ministry and schools have a role to play in ensuring that every school is a safe place for students to learn.

"For the ministry, if this culture of gangsterism becomes more serious and difficult to curb, it is possible that we will ask for help from Bukit Aman because all schools in the country should be free from negative elements.

"The ministry will also request police liaison officers to monitor and patrol more often in schools that have records of bullying cases so that this issue can be curbed," she said here today (May 20).

The Tanjong MP spoke to reporters when approached at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house of the parliamentary constituency, which was also attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng.

Hui Ying was commenting on a recent viral video of a bullying incident, believed to have happened at a secondary school in Butterworth near here. - Bernama
