TAMPIN: The Unity Government will continue to get the support of voters in Negeri Sembilan despite Perikatan Nasional’s claim of a 'Malay tsunami' in the upcoming state election, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid, who was also Umno president, said that in the democratic system in this country, all parties were free to express their views.
"We are very confident that the people need stability and in Negeri Sembilan, the priority is in terms of economic development and the people also need jobs.
"The people of Negeri Sembilan will choose a government that can help them.
"They (the opposition) have to change their tactics not only in Negeri Sembilan but also in Penang and Selangor, their leaders in Selangor also said (the same thing)," he told reporters after attending the Aidilfitri open house of the Negeri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee here on Saturday (May 20).
Ahmad Zahid was commenting on Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement on Saturday that he was confident of securing at least 70% votes, especially the Malay votes.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid who was also Barisan chairman, said that Barisan would be fielding more new faces and young candidates in the state elections to rejuvenate the party as well as give opportunities to young candidates.
"It has been proven in the Melaka and Johor elections. This trend is a hope for the people," he added.
On the claim that a Melaka assemblyman from the party would join PAS, Ahmad Zahid said he would meet the assemblyman soon. - Bernama
