KUALA LUMPUR: The special "FF" number plate series has raked in up to RM34,296,327 worth of revenue, says Anthony Loke.
The Transport Minister said this was the highest revenue generated since the JPJeBid system was opened to the public on April 15, 2019.
The "FF8" number plate had the highest price bids at RM950,000 with "FF9" coming in second at RM911,999.
Then "FF3" and "FF2" number plates came in third and fourth with bids up to RM639,000 and RM638,000 respectively.
"There was an incredible response to this series, with up to 34,032 bidders.
"Of the 9,999 numbers up for grabs, 8,348 bidders appeared during the five day period.
"This means there are only slightly more than 1,000 running left for the plates," he told a press conference at Parliament on Monday (May 22).
He added that the numbers with the most interest were "FF199" with 34 bidders and "FF51" (32), whereas "FF155", "FF555" and "FF1688" had 29 bidders each.
He said the initial last day of bidding (May 18) also saw many wanting to up their bids in the closing hours.
"Since there were so many people accessing the system at one time, our system crashed and we decided to extend the bid by another 24 hours.
"This is something we have to work on to make sure our system can run smoothly," he said.
On May 14, Loke announced the launch of a special "FF" number plate series to mark the 77th anniversary of the Road Transport Department (JPJ), with those interested able to bid online until May 18.
On May 19, Loke said JPJ would be extending the bidding period for the "FF" number plate series through the JPJeBid system to 10pm the same day.
This was after public complaints about the unstable JPJeBid system which was experiencing high traffic, Loke said.
