IPOH: The new Perak Hotel Enactment has been passed at the state assembly.

Some 32 assemblymen voted in favour of the enactment during the sitting on Tuesday (May 23).

All Perak assemblymen, except Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Kepayang) and Hakimi Hamzi Mohd Hayat (PAS - Titi Serong), voted.

Nga, who is Local Government Development Minister, is currently in Japan on official business while Hakimi Hamzi was not in the hall during the voting.

Earlier, state housing and local government committee chairman Sandrea Ng read the enactment, which was debated on Monday (May 22).

On Monday, several Opposition assemblymen were concerned that the fee structure could affect those running homestay businesses in rural areas.

The enactment would allow the regulation and control of safety, cleanliness, and nuisance of such sites.

The enactment covers all lodging places such as hotels, homestays, chalets, houseboats, and camping tents.

“We took into consideration the suggestions and concerns raised by all assemblymen and rest assured the Act doesn’t only protect customers but also lodging owners,” she said.
