Wong Chen appointed new International Relations and Trade Select Committee chief, MDV non-executive chair

PETALING JAYA: Subang Jaya MP Wong Chen has been appointed as the Special Select Committee on International Relations and Trade chairman and the Finance Ministry's Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV) non-executive chairman effective Tuesday (May 23).

Wong made the announcement on Facebook, where he also said he had been vetted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He said that his qualification for the post was also acknowledged by the Finance Ministry.

"I was a former corporate lawyer. I have also declared my assets and signed an anti-corruption pledge.

"In addition, I have taken a position that I will not chair board committees on risk management, remuneration, audit, (and) financing and investment.

"This should minimise any conflict-of-interest issues," he said.

Wong also said he was honoured to serve Parliament again in his capacity in the select committee.

This committee would work with, monitor and scrutinise the policies of three ministries namely the Foreign Ministry; Investment Trade and Industry Ministry and Economy Ministry, he said.

Wong had previously served as the chairman of the same select committee in 2019-2020 for four months before the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government.

MDV is a state-owned enterprise providing financing facilities to the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
