IPOH: Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa has been appointed as a Senator at the Dewan Negara by the Perak state assembly sitting on Thursday (May 25).
The Parti Amanah Negara vice-president was appointed to replace Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, who resigned as a senator on Nov 2 last year when he stood as a candidate in the 15th General Election.
Iskandar is the current Kuala Kangsar MP.
Mujahid, 59, who is the Perak Pakatan Harapan chairman and former Parit Buntar MP, received his bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Literature from Al-Azhar University.
He also holds a masters in Human Resources Development from Universiti Putra Malaysia, and a Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic Science Politics from Universiti Malaya.
Mujahid also served as an Arabic teacher at Sekolah Izzuddin Shah here and as a lecturer at the Multimedia University at Bukit Beruang in Melaka.
He had also held a position in the government after he was appointed as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (Islamic Religious Affairs) between 2018 and 2020.
Earlier, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (BN-Kota Tampan) had proposed Mujahid as a candidate, while Sandrea Ng Shy Ching (PKR-Teja) seconded it.
The state assembly speaker, Datuk Seri Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid subsequently announced Mujahid as a Senator representing Perak.
