MACC cannot confirm claims of gaming probe against Perikatan, says Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) cannot confirm claims Perikatan Nasional had used gambling proceeds in the last general election, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

In a parliamentary written reply, she said that the MACC had conducted a detailed probe into the matter.

"However, the MACC found that the information was too general and no parties were able to confirm the issue.

"So, no investigation papers were open," she said in response to a question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who asked about the latest status of the case.

PAS had demanded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to provide evidence after implying funds from gaming companies were used to partially fund Perikatan's 15th General Election (GE15) campaign.

On Dec 5 last year, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Perikatan would consider taking legal action against Anwar if no proof was furnished.

Anwar had hit out at Perikatan for allowing 22 special draws for 4D numbers under its administration.

"On the issue of gambling, certainly this is partly used to finance elections. (I have asked for) checks on that," he said.
