Siblings arrested with ganja plants in Sibu raid

SIBU: A man and his sister were arrested with two ganja plants when their house was raided on Wednesday (May 24).

"The arrest was made at about 12.25am at a house in Lorong Rambai by the Narcotics Investigation Department," said Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili at a press conference on Thursday (May 25).

ACP Zulkipli said that the 55-year-old man and his 50-year-old sister were arrested in the raid.

He added that two black plastic bags containing a pair of ganja seedlings and dry leaves believed to be ganja worth a total of RM20,000 were found upon a quick inspection of the premises.

"A car worth RM80,000 was also seized from them," he said, adding that urine tests of both siblings turned up negative for drugs.

He added that the two do not have criminal records and said that the police were currently looking for an accomplice who was still at large.

The suspects have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation under Section 68 of the Dangerous Drug Act 2952.

The Act provides for life imprisonment and whipping of not less than six strokes if convicted.
