MACC probes claims of fraud in PETRONAS project

PUTRAJAYA: Graft investigators are investigating claims of corruption involving a PETRONAS project with an international oil and gas corporation.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that investigation papers had been opened to investigate allegations highlighted in a portal.

“Our investigators received full cooperation from PETRONAS in the probe involving a project worth RM399mil in Sarawak.

“MACC has found several weaknesses in practices, systems and work procedures in relation to the issue,” said the commission in a statement yesterday.

MACC also said it had proposed several improvements to standard operating procedures as preventive measures, and urged those with information on the matter to come forward to assist with investigations.
