PAS in unity govt? Never, says Zahid

BAGAN DATUK: No one would ever dream of inviting PAS to join the unity government, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional chairman was commenting on PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claims that certain individuals had invited the party to join the unity government.

Ahmad Zahid said he had no knowledge of it and as far as he was concerned, no one would ever dream of making such an offer.

“This is beyond my knowledge. I think it is best for them (PAS) to keep their friendship with Bersatu.

“So please, stop being so conceited,” he said at a press conference after officiating the closing ceremony of the Perak MYFutureJobs Career Carnival 2023 in Hutan Melintang near here yesterday.

Last week, Abdul Hadi claimed that certain individuals had approached him about joining the unity government.

He reportedly said PAS was open to any offer from anyone, but it must not stray from its principles, goals and directions.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said social security protection for ehailing workers would be the focus of a new law that was being planned.

“Discussions are being held with Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar to refine the proposed Act so that it meets the needs of employers and employees.

“Formulating the Act will take time as it involves consultations with the Attorney General’s Chambers, as well as associations in the ehailing industry.

“The Act must be satisfactory to all parties.

“What is important is that it will safeguard their future,” he said, Bernama reported.

On the carnival, Ahmad Zahid said there were many job openings but Malaysians preferred white-collar jobs rather than blue-collar ones such as in construction.
