AMPANG: The first Jualan Mega Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme kicked off in Selangor at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council AU2 multipurpose hall on Wednesday (May 31).
Under the JER event, seven essential consumer items are offered at prices that are 30% below the market rate; fresh chicken, rice, eggs, cooking oil, fish, sugar and frozen beef are sold 30% less than market price.
The sale of these items are only available for three hours via an open concept premise.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub launched the JER programme alongside Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari.
The state JER programme will be held in all 56 state assembly constituencies with arrangements on location and logistics managed by the respective areas.
The Selangor JER programme is the first strategic cooperation between the ministry and the state government through the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), as it combines the Jualan Rahmah programme with Jualan Ehsan Rakyat Selangor.
"The effort by the state government through the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat Selangor has already been established and made its own name even before the 15th General Election, benefiting those in need,” said Salahuddin.
He added that he was elated when there was a suggestion for a cooperation between the ministry and state government merging the Jualan Rahmah programme with Jualan Ehsan Rakyat Selangor
"The ministry in Selangor and the state government have taken the next logical step with JER, which not only reduces implementation costs, but increases the impact and benefits the less fortunate group in the state," he said.
Salahuddin also announced another addition to the Payung Rahmah initiative with the Electric Rahmah programme offering household goods such as rice cookers, fridges and ovens.
He added that this came when an industry player had approached its interest to collaborate under the Rahmah programme.
