JOHOR BARU: A former beauty queen has spoken out about her distress after her contact number was exposed during a live streaming session by a man whom she had met only once.

Since the live stream on May 17, the woman, who only wants to be known as Yoke, said she had received at least 200 calls from men, mostly foreigners, who made unwanted sexual advances at her.

Recounting her ordeal, she said:

“I was at home with my three children when I was informed by a friend that someone had mentioned my name during a Facebook Live session.”

She claimed that the live streamer had casually “promoted” her as a promiscuous person.

“At the time, the video had already reached more than 1,800 viewers,” said Yoke, 41.

“He was using vulgar words while talking to a few foreign men who were working at a car wash,” she said.

Yoke, a single mother who works as a tour guide, said the live streamer was a man she had only met once during a beauty pageant competition in 2021.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Johor MCA public complaints bureau office here yesterday, Yoke said the man claimed that he would share pictures of her together with foreign men. When the live session ended, Yoke said her phone began to ring non-stop.

“I don’t know what I did to him to deserve this,” Yoke said, adding that she could no longer go to work as she is under tremendous stress.

To make things worse, a video recording of the live session was uploaded again on May 20 at 10pm, she said.

Yoke has lodged a report to the police as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Johor MCA public complaints bureau committee member Joan Ng Geok Yin said Yoke had to seek therapy to deal with the horrifying situation.

Ng called the live streamer during the press conference, and he claimed that he was merely doing it as a joke.

“Sharing a person’s phone number and making vulgar stories about her is not a joke. He should have not made such remarks,” she said.

She hopes the police will take immediate action.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed that a report had been lodged.
