KLANG: Selangor PAS has compiled its final list of candidates for the state polls although seat negotiations within Perikatan Nasional are still ongoing and are expected to be completed by June 5.
According to a Perikatan insider, Selangor PAS has recommended that its commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi defends his Sijangkang seat in the upcoming state polls.
Dr Ahmad Yunus, who is also Kuala Langat MP, is the three-term incumbent Sijangkang assemblyman.
"We feel he is the most qualified candidate in the state and has vast experience as an elected representative as well as a state executive councillor," said the source.
Dr Ahmad Yunus had served as a Selangor executive councillor under former mentri besar, the late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, during the Pakatan Rakyat state administration.
He added although Selangor PAS did not want to "recycle" candidates, it will bring back some experienced candidates.
"Former Bangi assemblyman Mohd Shafie Ngah has been selected to contest this year for the Sungai Ramal seat," he said.
Mohd Shafie, who served as the deputy state legislative assembly speaker during the Pakatan Rakyat era, did not contest in 2018.
PAS also nominated its former Taman Templer assemblyman Zaidy Abdul Talib, a former a state executive councillor, to contest for the seat, which he lost to Amanah in 2018.
The source said as Dr Ahmad Yunus is the Kuala Langat MP and wields a lot of influence in the state, Perikatan would contest all state seats under the parliamentary constituency.
Besides Sijangkang, the other two state seats under Kuala Langat are Morib and Banting.
"Morib will probably go to Bersatu whilst a Gerakan candidate will contest in Banting," said the insider.
Gerakan is also a Perikatan partner party.
The incumbents for Morib and Banting are Amanah's Hasnul Baharuddin and DAP's Lau Weng San respectively.
He added the Kuala Kubu Baru seat, which is currently held by DAP's Lee Kee Hiong, will most probably be allocated to Gerakan.
The KKB state seat falls under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat, which PKR lost to PAS in last year's general election.
