Jelutong MP files police report against Sanusi for claiming Penang belongs to Kedah

GEORGE TOWN: A police report has been lodged against Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for claiming that Penang belongs to Kedah.

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, who lodged the report, alleged that Muhammad Sanusi, as Mentri Besar, had disputed the sovereignty of the state of Penang, which was established and recognised in the Federal Constitution one of the 13 states in Malaysia.

"He not only questioned the validity of the Federal Constitution but also the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who appointed the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang.

"As a mentri besar, he should be responsible and gather opinions from legal experts and not simply make statements as this may cause public disorder among Penangites," said Rayer in his report lodged at the Jalan Patani police station at 8.31am Thursday (June 1).

He said he also lodged the report to support the validity of the Federal Constitution and the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhammad Sanusi was reported to have said that Penang belonged to Kedah, and that Kedah only shared its state borders with Perak and Perlis.

He added that Kedah never needed to claim Penang back as it had never been "let off" from Kedah.
