Seat talks for S’gor polls nearly complete

AMPANG: Pakatan Harapan component parties in Selangor have reached a consensus on 83% of the seats in the upcoming state election, with priority given to parties that won previously, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar, who is also state Pakatan and state PKR chairman, said parties would contest the same seats they won in the 14th General Election in 2018.

“This means Hulu Kelang will remain with Amanah and Kota Kemuning with DAP, even if (Kota Kemuning incumbent) V. Ganabatirau won’t be contesting there this time,” he told reporters yesterday after an event.

Amirudin said this in response to Ganabatirau’s recent statement about not defending his state seat in the coming polls.

He said he wished to focus on the Klang parliamentary seat which he won in the 15th General Election last November.

Amirudin, who said Pakatan reached an agreement on 83% of the seats, added that by the time the state assembly is dissolved automatically on June 25, they would have fully resolved the distribution of seats.

“Even if there are changes, they will not be significant,” he said, adding that their line-up would feature a mix of old and new faces. He was speaking after the launch of the first Jualan Mega Ehsan Rahmah programme for the state by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council here.

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will be holding their state elections soon as the six state governments did not dissolve their assemblies for GE15.

Currently, PKR holds the most seats in the Selangor assembly at 19, followed by DAP (15) and Amanah (six).

Barisan Nasional has five seats, and the rest is made up of Bersatu (four), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (two), Pejuang (two), one each from PAS and Warisan, and an Independent.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan Umno chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said there were a few more seats in his state pending discussion.

“We in Negri Sembilan have almost settled the matter, with only a few seats (still being disputed),” he said when contacted.

The Negri Sembilan state government is headed by Pakatan’s Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun of PKR.

His coalition currently controls 20 of the 36 seats in the state assembly – 11 by DAP, six by PKR and three by Amanah.

Barisan holds the remaining 16 with Umno’s 15 and one from MIC. On the federal front, Pakatan and Barisan are partners in the unity government.
