GUA MUSANG: About 150 Orang Asli residents in Kampung Ber, Pos Tuel, here, want the government to upgrade the mobile internet connectivity in their village.

The Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe claimed that although they were provided with the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) service in the village, the internet access was still low and limited.

Asu Jenang, 60, said they depended entirely on Jendela's services because their settlement is located in a rural area with no coverage from telecommunication companies.

"The internet access is getting slower because the available quota is not enough, it is even worse when it rains heavily because the internet cannot be used at all," he told reporters when met at the village recently.

Razak Rongging, 41, said the limited internet access makes it difficult for them to get help during times of emergency because they can only make and receive calls through the WhatsApp application.

"We really hope this problem can be solved as soon as possible," he said.

Meanwhile, the Kelantan Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), when contacted, said it is fully aware of the issues facing the residents of the village.

"Appropriate action will be taken to help the Orang Asli community in Kampung Ber enjoy good internet access in their village," it said. - Bernama
